DIY Shrinky Dink Necklace
1. Design It
Start by outlining and filling in each pendant of your necklace on the rough side of your shrink film. The rough side will be the back of your necklace, so if your design has a specific orientation, make sure you're drawing or writing it backwards. You may want to draw your design in pencil first to avoid mistakes. Your pendants will shrink to about 75% of their original size and double in thickness, so you want to make them larger than your desired finished product.
2. Cut & Punch
Cut your pendants out and use a standard hole punch to punch holes in your pendants where you'll want them to connect. Don't forget two holes on the top pendant(s) to connect your chain!
3. Shrink It
Pre-heat your oven to 275 degrees — a toaster oven works too! Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, and tear off an extra piece for later. Place your pieces on your baking sheet at least 2-3 inches apart, colored side facing up. Bake them for 3-5 minutes, but keep your eyes on them! They will curl up quite a bit, but this is normal — they'll flatten out towards the end. Remove your baking sheet and place on a heat-safe surface — wear your oven mits! If some of your pieces are not quite flat, place your extra sheet of foil on top of your charms and weigh them down with a heavy object like a book. Do this as soon as you remove them from the oven, while they're still hot.
4. Link It
Measure your chain around your neck and find your desired length, then cut into two pieces using your pliers. Open the jump rings with nose pliers and connect each pendant to the other. Then, attach your pendant to your chain with jump rings. Add a jump ring and the clasp to one end of the chain and a jump ring to the other end of the chain. Lastly, wear and enjoy!
